The song Jesus Saves Me Now is one of the most famous songs of the sanctification movement . It was composed by Ernst Heinrich Gebhardt especially for Robert Pearsall Smith . He presented it during Smith's lecture series on April 15, 1875 in Karlsruhe . It can still be found in many song books, especially in those of communities that can be traced back to the sanctification movement or are connected to its teachings.

Dedication and claim

The dedication to Smith is noted on the song sheet below:

"Dedicated to the friends of the honored Mr. Pearsall Smith from Philadelphia in memory of his blessed work in Germany and Switzerland in the spring of 1875 by the author of the Good News"

At the top of the song sheet is the quote from Smith, who had Gebhardt compose the song.

"I have learned only one sentence in the German language; but this is enough to carry me safely all through life and then right into Glory, This is: Jesus errettet mich now!

I have only learned one sentence in German, but this is enough for me to keep myself happy throughout my life and finally to lead me into eternal glory. The same is called " Jesus saves me now! "

2. If your sins are equally blood red and severe, if your conscience is injured,
O speak in faith (do not forget it any more): “Jesus saves me now!”

3. When the world challenges you with temptation, Satan chases you after you,
so repeat it and do not be afraid: “Jesus saves me now!”

4. When the tears of tribulation and hardship wet your cheeks,
just look up to God very calmly: “Jesus will save me now!”

5. Then you come towards the dark valley, oh then say cheerfully at last:
"Now it goes to glory, especially rejoice, Jesus will save me now!"
