Jeusungen (also Geusungen ) is a medieval and early modern desert in the district of Schweinfurt , in the area of ​​the community of Üchtelhausen .

Geographical location

The desert is located in the Schweinfurt Rhön , in the Üchtelhausen district of Weipoltshausen , in a forest with the current name Jeusing .

history

A place called Jeusungen or Geusungen once existed near Weipoltshausen and was first mentioned in 791 as Giuwisunga and became desolate between 1440 and 1445. The two kilometers north and up to 417 m above sea level remind of him. High lying forest Jeusing between Madenhausen and the Brönnhof as well as the Jeusinggrund, which leads from Zell to Jeusing. In addition, the Jeusingwiese, on a cadastral plan from the 19th century with Ieusing and Ieusingbrunnen was called and the northeastern end of the clearing island forms of Brönnhofs.

Places with the ending ungen indicate Thuringian origins. The Thuringians ruled the northern Main Franconia until they were pushed back or overlaid by the Franks from the 6th century onwards. Jeusungen was therefore probably founded in the 5th century.
