from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Weipoltsdorf (also Weipelsdorf ) is a medieval desert in the district of Schweinfurt in the municipality of Üchtelhausen .

Geographical location

The desert is located at 307 m above sea level. NN in the south of the Schweinfurt Rhön , 6 km northeast of the Schweinfurt market square . It is located on the eastern edge of the area of the greater community of Üchtelhausen on the boundary of the old town, between the two forest areas Stöckach in the north and Gereut in the south. The former hamlet was located at the sources of the torrent, as the upper reaches of the Meerbach are called, which flows into the Main 3 km south of the desert at Mainberg . Even the most accurate current topographic maps no longer contain field names that indicate the desert, while in a historical land register plan from the 19th century, three names in the area of the desert provide a hint:

  • "Weipoltsdorf, State Forest, Distr. VI, Abth. 1 "(district of Üchtelhausen, today part of the greater community of Üchtelhausen)
  • "The Weipoltsdorf, corridor" (dto.)
  • "The Weipelsdorf, corridor (district Hausen ", today part of the large community of Schonungen )

history

In 1436/37 the city council of Schweinfurt received the two exclaves Weipoltsdorf and Ottenhausen as part of a major expansion. The Teutonic Order also acquired the castle on the Peterstirn , the villages of Altstadt , Hilpersdorf , Weipoltshausen , Zell , the Deutschhof , Thomashof farms and the associated land areas for a total of 18,000 guilders . In the Thirty Years' War Weipoltsdorf was devastated.

Up until the land consolidation in the 1960s, there was a wetland biotope on the site of the desert , which was converted into an agricultural property. In 1993 the Erhard family from Üchtelhausen, who financed and independently implemented funding projects as the “erhard family”, acquired the property. In cooperation with the nature conservation authorities, they rebuilt a biotope with a pond called Alt Weipoltsdorf.

description

Weipoltsdorf was a hamlet with six to eight houses. It was located at some of the springs still existing today in a small side valley in the source area of the torrent between the large forest areas of the Schweinfurt Rhön . Above (north) the desert, the torrent is only a not constantly water-bearing ditch without further sources. The arrangement of the plots with many small parcels still indicate the settlement. In a historical map, this small parceled area is free of forest, while today the southern area is forested, with the historical parcels still partially visible on the forest aisles. The desert is managed by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments as ground monument D-6-5927-0090 Medieval desert "Weipoltsdorf" (as of September 2, 2017).
