Jiří Jirmal
Jiří Jirmal (born April 24, 1925 in Prague ; † December 11, 2019 there ) was a Czech guitarist , jazz composer and music teacher .
Life
Jirmal studied guitar with Štěpán Urban at the Prague Conservatory. In Saarbrücken he worked with Siegfried Behrend and studied renaissance and baroque guitar. He became professor of guitar at the Prague Conservatory and visiting professor at the Saar University of Music . His students include the guitarists Vladimír Mikulka , Rudolf Dašek and Stanislav Barek .
In the early 1960s he composed the music for the cartoon Tall in the Trap (from the Tom and Jerry series; directed by Gene Deitch from Prague ) and set up a guitar school for beginners ( Škola hry na kytaru pro začátečníky ) and other guitar literature ( Základy kytarové techniky , transcriptions of classical works for solo guitar).
