Štěpán Urban

Štěpán Urban (* 4. October 1913 in Bořanovice ; † 4. May 1974 in Prague ) was a Czech guitarist , composer , music educator , anthroposophist , Esperanto - poet and writer . He wrote under the pseudonym Steur Panban .

Life

Urban worked for the Czechoslovak Radio for several years . After the war he laid the foundation stone for the Czech guitar school. She was a role model for educators in the Netherlands, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Italy. He was a professor at the Prague Conservatory . His students include Štěpán Rak (* 1945), Jan Truhlář and Jiří Jirmal . He composed several works for guitar and set over 30 poems to music (including by William Auld , Julio Baghy , Kálmán Kalocsay and Edmond Privat ).

In addition to music, Urban devoted himself to Esperanto literature. He learned the language in the 1950s. His prose ( short stories ) and satirical poetry have been published in many countries. More than 100 poems were written, including Norda Prismo , Heroldo de Esperanto and Esperanto en Skotlando . He has received several awards and is one of the leading Esperanto writers . His best known work is Nova Ezopo (1961). From 1942 to 1955 he was married to the poet Eli Urbanová .
