Jiří Mlíkovský
Jiří Mlíkovský (born September 15, 1954 in Prague ) is a Czech paleornithologist and ornithologist . He is mainly concerned with birds from the tertiary in Europe, e.g. B. the Miocene and Pleistocene of Austria and the Czech Republic.
Mlíkovský received his doctorate in 1977 from the Martin Luther University in Halle (contributions to the evolution of the bird's brain). He is the curator of the ornithological collection in the National Museum in Prague.
He is the author of a catalog of the fossil birds from the Cenozoic in Europe (Volume 1 of a planned series, which will then also extend to other parts of the world).
In 2011 he and Sylke Frahnert found new bird species in the collections of the Natural History Museum in Berlin, collected in Lebanon and Syria from 1820 to 1825 by Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg and his doctor and zoologist friend, Friedrich Wilhelm Hemprich (1796–1825). He also revised the naming of new fossil bird species (including a pelican) by Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach in 1852 and described the bird collection in the Institute for Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.
He is also a translator of literature from English and German.
