Ji (magazine)

Ji ( Ukrainian Ї ) is an independent Ukrainian cultural studies journal that appears in Lviv at irregular intervals under the editorship of the philosopher and political scientist Taras Wozniak .

The magazine is a member of the European network Eurozine . The Ukrainian translator Grigori Kotschur and the linguist Yuri Shevyelov suggested the title “Ji”. Ji is one of the letters of the Ukrainian alphabet.

The magazine deals with international affairs and European integration. The first issues were printed in Vilnius since 1989 with the support of the Sąjūdis party. From 1995 the magazine appears legal in Lviv. It appears in the Ukrainian language, with the leading articles in each issue appearing in the Cyrillic and Latin alphabet.

Some issues are dedicated to the regions of western Ukraine, such as Lviv , Chernovitz , Ivano-Frankivsk , Volhynia , Carpathian Ukraine and Bukovina .

The magazine is edited under the supervision of a committee, the members of which are well-known representatives of western Ukrainian culture. The magazine published articles by well-known representatives of world culture, such as Samuel P. Huntington , Zbigniew Brzeziński , Jacques Derrida and Jean Baudrillard . In addition to the magazine, books are published on Western Ukrainian affairs.

"Ji" is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) and promotes many citizens' initiatives, including a. the renovation of the residence of the Polish comedy writer Alexander Count Fredro and his grandson, the Greek Catholic Archbishop Andrei Scheptyzkyj in Benkowa Vishnya. She also supports the website of the Ukrainian PEN Club .

In addition to the printed booklet, the magazine is available on the Internet in Ukrainian, German, English and French.
