James "Jim" Dennison (* 1st quarter 1879 in Fleetwood , † 1924 ) was an English football player .

Career

The center forward played for Sale- based club Sale Holmfield , with whom he competed in the Manchester League . In April 1903 he led the club as team captain to win the Cheshire Senior Cup (2-0 final win over Winsford United ). After the game, the team was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd in Sale and driven through the streets on a wagonette , accompanied by a band and numerous supporters, to a hotel for further celebrations. Two weeks later he played as a test player in the reserve team of Manchester City , and was committed to the 1903/04 season.

In the following three years Dennison was a regular in the reserve, for which he scored 28 goals in 44 appearances. The center forward position in the first team was largely occupied by Billie Gillespie , only on March 12, 1904 he was used in the first division game against Blackburn Rovers . In the 5-2 success he formed the attack line with Billy Meredith , Geordie Livingstone , Sandy Turnbull and Frank Booth and scored two goals. In the summer of 1906, he was originally put on the transfer list, but a little later, like six teammates, he was still signed up. The reason for this was a scandal about illegal payment by the club with star striker Meredith at the center of the affair, after which 17 players and numerous club officials were banned. Dennison appeared in a traditional internal test match in the pre-season phase, but had to leave the field injured in a game between the Lancashire Combination and Everton FC reserves and was then out of action with knee problems for a long time, one last message about his upcoming comeback can be found in April 1907.
