The Jim Pattison Group is a Canadian company based in Vancouver . The company was founded in 1961 by Jim Pattison , he took over an automobile dealership for Pontiac and Buick . The entry into the media world happened in 1965 when Pattison received a license to operate a radio station . In the late 1960s, Pattison continued to diversify. He took over a grocery store and got into the newspaper business. In 1979 he founded a division for lighting advertising, in 1980 he expanded into the automotive industry.

The company currently owns 30 radio stations and three smaller television stations in the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta . In addition, in 2008 the Jim Pattison Group acquired the British publisher, which publishes the Guinness Book of Records , from Apax Partners .
