Jim Whiting

James "Jim" Whiting (born January 11, 1951 in Paris ) is a freelance artist.

Life

As the son of an Englishman and a Swiss woman from the canton of Graubünden , he spent his childhood in Salisbury , Zimbabwe from 1954 , and then in London from 1959 . He studied Electronic Engineering & Systems Control from 1969 to 1972 at Queen Mary College in London and from 1972 to 1973 at the High Wycombe College of Art . From 1973 to 1974 he studied sculpture at St Martin's School of Art . From 1979 he worked as a freelance artist in London.

His breakthrough came in 1984 with his work in the video Rockit by Herbie Hancock . At the same time he began working with the Swiss sculptor Tinguely , who referred to him as his legitimate successor.

Some of Whiting's works were on view in 1987 in the avant-garde amusement park and "Fair of Modern Art" Luna Luna by André Heller .

From 1988 onwards, Whiting achieved great success with his machine theater Unnatural Bodies over several years in various large cities. The first version of Bimbo Town was shown in Basel from 1992 to 1994 , and from 1995 in Leipzig .
