Jimmy Sherman

James H. "Jimmy" Sherman (born August 17, 1908 in Williamsport (Pennsylvania) ; † October 11, 1975 ) was an American jazz pianist , arranger and composer who is best known today as the lyricist of Lover Man .

Sherman played in various swing bands in the mid to late 1930s , including a. with Alphonse Trent , Al Sears , Stuff Smith , Lil Armstrong , Mildred Bailey and Putney Dandridge . With Jimmy Davis and Ram Ramirez , he wrote the song Lover Man in 1941 , which was best known through Billie Holiday in 1944 and was covered by singers such as Sarah Vaughan , Carmen McRae , Lena Horne , Betty Carter and Shirley Horn , but was also interpreted by Charlie Parker has been.
