Janine "Jini" Meyer (born May 13, 1983 in Lüdenscheid ) is a German singer and songwriter . She became known as the front woman of the rock-pop band Luxuslärm and worked as a solo singer after the group broke up.

Career

Meyer comes from a musical family and began taking piano lessons from the age of 7. At 14 she started singing in the school choir. After graduating from high school, she began to study English and sport to become a teacher. However, she broke this off to study rock and pop singing at the Academy of Pop Music in Enschede, the Netherlands, from 2005 .

From 2006, she was the front woman of the rock-pop band Luxuslärm for 11 years . After six awards at the German Rock and Pop Prize in 2008, winning the 1 Live Krone as Best Newcomer in 2009, an Echo nomination in 2010 and selling over 250,000 albums, the band split in 2016.

In 2015 she was allowed to work as a vocal coach in the casting show Popstars and support the young talents from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Meyer also supported the candidates of Unser Song 2017 , the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, as a vocal coach .

At the beginning of 2018, Jini Meyer continued to work as a solo artist after a creative break and released her first own album Frei sein on August 16, 2019 . With her solo album she reached number 25 in the German album charts. In April 2020 Meyer published a new edition of the luxury noise song Because one calls it love .
