Jiří Polák

Jiří Polák (* 1948 in Prague ; † 2014 ) was a Czech - German writer , dramaturge , screenplay and radio play writer .

Life

Jiří Polák was born the son of the painter and economist Ota Šik . Polák graduated from the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in his hometown and graduated as a qualified screenwriter and dramaturge under his teacher Milan Kundera . From 1973 to 1976 Polák worked as an editor at the Central Film Distribution in Prague before he was banned from practicing his profession from 1976 to 1980. During this time Polák wrote under various pseudonyms.

After his expatriation from what was then Czechoslovakia in 1980, Polák moved to the Federal Republic of Germany and took on German citizenship. Here he first worked in 1982 as a guest dramaturge at the Freiburg Theater , from 1985 to 1989 he was a lecturer in dramaturgy and screenwriting at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb). From 1989 Polák worked as a freelancer, but continued to work for the dffb.

Polák wrote scripts for the ZDF films King of Evergreen and Dead Never Die , for the Tatort episode A Touch of Hollywood and the short film Alice in No Man's Land . In 1995 he created the play So nah - so fern , which premiered at the Schauspiel Leipzig and was the best German entry at the 1st European Dramatists' Competition. In addition, Polák wrote a whole series of radio plays for various broadcasters.

Jiří Polák last lived in Berlin. His younger brother is the architecture professor Miroslav Šik .
