Alice in No Man's Land is a 33-minute German short film from 2007. The title is a reference to Lewis Carroll's book Alice in Wonderland .
action
Alice travels after her friend Nico, who last reported from the German-Polish border. Instead of finding him, Alice is robbed and now stands perplexed in the rain. She is completely soaked and "rescued" by a taxi driver. Taxi driver Frank believes Alice is an illegal immigrant; he is not allowed to take suspicious persons into the border region. Alice is uncomfortable with Frank's clumsy advances, so she gets out and continues wandering around in no man's land. Nico is chasing after refugees with his video camera. In his eyes they embody the unlimited freedom that he misses. When Nico tries to film her, he is knocked down.
background
The inspiration for the short film came from a stay on the German-Swiss border, during which the director and screenwriter were intensively checked three times in quick succession.
Trivia
Christian Ulmen played the taxi driver even though he doesn't have a driver's license.
