Yitzhak Ben-Ari

Yitzhak "Micki" Ben-Ari ( Hebrew יצחק בן ארי ; * 1924 in Vienna as Erwin Rinden ; † March 19, 2004 ibid) was an Israeli diplomat.

Life

He grew up in Vienna and attended a humanistic grammar school there . After the annexation of Austria in March 1938, he left the country and finally emigrated to the British mandate of Palestine in 1939 . His parents, in turn, later emigrated to England.

In Palestine he attended an agricultural school in Pardess-Hannah. From 1941 to 1947 he worked as a security guard in various kibbutzim and also trained in local government. During the 1948 War of Independence , he joined the Haganah underground paramilitary organization . After the founding of the state of Israel, he continued his education with a degree in agriculture and law.

From 1953 to 1958, Ben-Ari worked at the Israeli embassy in Paris . 1958 to 1959 he interrupted his activity in the diplomatic service to study political science. During his further diplomatic career, Ben-Ari served as the Israeli ambassador to Germany from 1981 to 1988 . After leaving the diplomatic service, he became Vice President of the German-Israeli Society . Ben-Ari died in Vienna in April 2004 at the age of 80.
