João Camoes

João Camões (* 1983 in Coimbra ) is a Portuguese jazz and improvisation musician ( viola , composition ).

João Camões had a classical education and studied viola at the Conservatory of Music in Coimbra with João Ventura. After completing his civil engineering studies , he moved to Lisbon, where he played in the local improvisation scene. From the 2000s he worked in numerous projects such as Open Field String Trio (with Marcelo dos Reis', guitar, and José Miguel Pereira, double bass), earnear (with Rodrigo Pinheiro, piano, and Miguel Mira, cello), as a duo by the artist Kátia Sá and with the Ensemble Nuova Camerata (with Carlos Zíngaro , violin, Ulrich Mitzlaff (cello), Miguel Leiria Pereira (double bass) and Pedro Carneiro (marimba)). With his wife Joana Gomes he wrote music for plays. During a stay of several years in Paris, he deepened his collaboration with Jean-Marc Foussat . In the course of his career, he has occasionally worked with Bertrand Denzler , Bruno Parrinha , Burton Greene , Elliott Sharp , Ernesto Rodrigues , Evan Parker , Frédéric Blondy , João Apolinário , João Lucas , João Parrinha , João Paulo Esteves da Silva , João Viegas , Manuel Ara , Miguel Martins and Samuel Barsegian .
