João Cravinho
João Cardona Gomes Cravinho (born September 19, 1936 in Angola ) is a Portuguese politician of the Partido Socialista (PS).
Career
Cravinho finished his engineering studies with a degree. From 1980 to 1983, 1985 to 1989, 1994 to 1995 and from 1999 to 2009 he was a member of the Assembleia da República . He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1994 , where he was elected Vice-President.
In the cabinet of Prime Minister António Guterres he was Minister for Planning and Property Management from January 30, 1995 to October 25, 1999. In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, on January 15, 1996, he was also given the responsibility for social institutions.
His move to fight corruption was rejected by the Portuguese parliament in 2006. After leaving Parliament, he joined the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as Director .

Cravinho's son João Gomes Cravinho has been Portugal's Minister of Defense since 2018.
