João Jacintho Tavares de Medeiros (born March 23, 1844 in São Miguel , Azores ; † 1903 ) was a Portuguese lawyer .

Life

João Jacintho Tavares de Medeiros studied in Coimbra from 1871 to 1876, worked here as an administrative officer, then became a lawyer in Lisbon , later also a member of the highest authority for the treatment of prisoners at the Ministry of Justice and a member of the Royal Academy in Lisbon.

In addition to numerous articles in the field of general jurisprudence , social policy and comparative law and several civil and commercial law monographs, he wrote a work entitled Anthropology and Law , which was first edited by Manuel Torres Campos in a Spanish translation with additions ( Antropologia y derecho , Madrid 1893). He also wrote a presentation of Portuguese constitutional law in Heinrich Marquardsen's Handbook of Contemporary Public Law (Freiburg 1892) and a presentation of Portuguese criminal law in the first volume of the contemporary criminal law published by the International Criminalist Association in a comparative legal representation (Berlin 1894). The Portuguese Commercial Code of 1888 came about with his collaboration.
