João Carlos Araújo Matias (born May 26, 1991 in Barcelos ) is a Portuguese cyclist who competes in races on track and road .

Athletic career

In 2013 João Matias finished fifth in the Portuguese U23 road championship, and in 2016 he finished eleventh in the elite individual time trial . In 2018 he won a stage and the points classification of the Grande Prémio de Portugal N2 .

In 2017, Matias was the first national champion on the track, in scratch . Up to and including 2020 he won further championship titles in various rail disciplines. He finished ninth in the overall scratch ranking of the 2018/19 Track Cycling World Cup .
