João Tamagnini de Sousa Barbosa (born December 30, 1883 in Macau , † December 15, 1948 ) was a Portuguese military and politician. From December 23, 1918 to January 27, 1919 he was head of government of his country. He led one of the many unstable governments of the First Republic .

João Tamagnini de Sousa Barbosa, often shortened to João Tamagnini Barbosa, served as Minister of the Interior , Colonies and Finance in the dictatorial government of Sidónio Pais . After he was killed in an assassination attempt on December 14, 1918, João do Canto e Castro initially took over the offices of Pais, who was both head of state and head of government of his country. The old constitution of the republic, which Pais had repealed, was reinstated, and with it the renewed separation of the offices of President and Prime Minister. João do Canto e Castro became the new President and handed over the post of Prime Minister to Tamagnini Barbosa. After full restoration of the parliamentary form of government, the latter handed over the post of Prime Minister to José Carlos de Mascarenhas Relvas from the Democratic Party .

From 1947 to 1948 he was president of the Benfica football club in Lisbon .
