Jo Kyung Ran (* 1969 in Seoul ) is a South Korean author . She is considered one of the most important representatives of contemporary literature production in South Korea.
Life
After graduating from high school, she lived withdrawn from the world until she was 25, before she began studying creative writing at the Seoul Institute of the Arts (서울 예술 대학교) and in 1996 with the story "The French Glasses Shop" (Pullansŏ angyŏngwon) made his debut. In the same year, her first novel, "Zeit zum Toastbacken" (Sikppang kumnŭn sigan) was awarded the Munhakdongnae Prize for New Writers. This award was presented for the first time that year.
Jo Kyung-ran's works are characterized by a very sensitive kind of literary observation and imagination. The author mainly addresses the isolation and loneliness in modern urbanized society, the breakdown of interpersonal relationships and alienation within the family. This clearly distinguishes it from the older generation of Korean writers and their issues such as national division and coming to terms with history.
Her novels "Zeit zum Toastbacken" and "Feine Kost" and her collection of stories "How does the elephant get into my bedroom?" Are published in German. Your story "My purple sofa" is contained in the volume of stories "Assembled Lights", "The French glasses shop" in the volume "A simple dotted dress", both published as part of the edition of modern Korean authors from Pendragon Verlag Bielefeld.
