Jo Vliex

Jo Vliex (born July 8, 1942 in Heerlen , Limburg ) is a Dutch composer , conductor , judge , critic , educator and publisher .

Life

Vliex received his first piano lessons from his father at the age of five. After the concert flute and clarinet , he switched to his favorite instrument, the French horn , at the age of nine . At the age of 14 he played at the Aachen City Theater under the direction of the then conductor Herbert von Karajan .

From 1958 Vliex studied HaFa-Direction at the Maastricht Conservatory with the minor subjects piano and French horn . In addition to this training, he studied composition with Professor Ernst at the Rheinische Musikschule Köln . Since 1980 he has been working primarily as a composer for brass music, minstrel music and choirs. In the meantime he has created an extensive oeuvre consisting of marches, concert works, compositions for solo instruments with piano, choral works, symphonic music and chamber music.

In order to publish his works and those of his son Leon Vliex , he founded his own music publisher called Bronsheim Muziekuitgeverij .

After working as a music teacher and conductor of several Dutch associations, he was conductor of the instrumental association St. Cäcilia Tüddern 1912 eV from October 1992 to April 2017, and since 2008 also conductor of the music association Granterath eV 1948.

In 2005 he celebrated his 40th anniversary as a conductor.

In 2015 he celebrated his 50th anniversary as a conductor.
