Joachim boy

Joachim Knabe (born January 18, 1921 in Wilsdruff ; † May 28, 2005 ) was a German chemist and pharmacist .

Life

From 1947 onwards, Knabe studied pharmacy and food chemistry at the TU Braunschweig , where he received his doctorate in 1953 and qualified as a professor in 1959. A well-known German-language textbook on pharmaceutical chemistry was created here in connection with Harry Auterhoff (first in 1962, from the 12th edition in 1991 with the professor at the Free University of Berlin Hans-Dieter Höltje ).

In 1965 he became a full professor for pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Saarbrücken , where he founded the Institute for Pharmaceutical Chemistry. In 1989 he retired.

He dealt with alkaloids (especially isoquinolines ) and stereospecificity of drugs. With his colleague Walter Rummel , he researched differences in the effects of enantiomers of barbiturates . He has produced over 200 scientific publications.

In 1977 he became a member of the Leopoldina . In 1981 he received the Carl Mannich Medal and in 1985 the Hermann Thoms Medal of the German Pharmaceutical Society, of which he chaired the Saar regional group for a long time.
