Joachim Näther

Joachim Näther (born March 11, 1925 in Waldau near Zeitz; † 2009 ) was a German architect .

Between 1964 and 1974 he was chief architect of East Berlin . Näther made a significant contribution to the redesign of various East Berlin residential and mixed areas such as Alexanderplatz , Leipziger Strasse and Fischerinsel .

Näther also designed architectural elements for the ensemble on Langen Strasse in Rostock , which was inspired by brick Gothic.

In 1969 he was awarded the GDR National Prize, 1st class for science and technology.
