Joachim Nettelbeck (University Manager)

Joachim Nettelbeck (* 1944 in Mannheim ) is a German lawyer and university manager who was Secretary General of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin until 2012 .

After graduating from high school in 1963, Nettelbeck studied law and sociology in Freiburg im Breisgau and Berlin at the Louisenlund educational home . From 1971 to 1977 he was head of administration at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences . During a research stay in France, he received his doctorate in 1978/79 with a dissertation “ On the appointment of university teachers in the Federal Republic and in France ”. From 1979 to 1981 he worked as an executive assistant at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Bonn. From the beginning of 1981 to 2012 he was the defining Secretary General of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. This was followed by guest stays in 2014 at the IEA Nantes and in autumn 2015 at the Center for European Studies Harvard and the Rockefeller Archive Center.

Joachim Nettelbeck worked closely with the science organizer Hellmut Becker , in whose household in Kressbronn he grew up as a foster son. He is the younger brother of Uwe Nettelbeck (* 1940).
