Joachim Römer (born June 7, 1943 in Wuppertal ) is a German journalist , author and restaurant critic .

Life

After graduating from high school, Römer learned the editing profession at General-Anzeiger Wuppertal and initially specialized in the subjects of engines and traffic. In 1972 he founded a press office in Cologne , which initially focused on traffic issues. In addition to numerous in-house and customer magazines, his most important task was the editorial design of the Deutsche Verkehrswacht eV magazine until 1979. In 1978, he and Rainer Hessel were awarded the Christophorus Prize of the German Insurance Association.

From 1981 to 1997 he designed the magazine markt +wirtschaft on behalf of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry , which he expanded into a highly regarded regional business magazine . Part of the new concept was a “restaurant tip” on the last page of the magazine, which is still published today and which laid the foundation for his work as a restaurant critic.

From 1984 to 1992 his press office acted as the external press office of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Cologne Brewery Association with the beer type Kölsch , especially with the announcement of the Kölsch Convention .

From 1985 to 1995 he wrote weekly restaurant reviews for the Cologne and Bonn editions of the tabloid Express . He first processed the experience he gained in 1989 in a regional restaurant guide, which is updated every year and was published in the 25th edition for 2014. From 2015 the restaurant guide will only appear online. Römer is a member of the Food Editors Club Germany eV He lives and works in Cologne and on the Chiemsee .
