Joachim Rønneberg

Joachim Holmboe Rønneberg (born August 30, 1919 in Ålesund ; † October 21, 2018 there ) was a Norwegian resistance fighter in World War II . With Operation Gunnerside , he delayed the construction of a German atomic bomb .
Wartime
After the German occupation of Norway in 1941, Rønneberg fled to Scotland with eight friends and received military training in the United Kingdom . As a member of Linge Company , he was deployed to prevent Norwegian heavy water production . After all 34 saboteurs and one of the two flight crews were killed in the previous Operation Freshman , the heavy water factory in Vemork was more closely guarded. Lieutenant Joachim Rønneberg took over the job and chose Lieutenant Knut Haukelid and Kasper Idland as well as Sergeants Fredrik Kayser, Hans Storhaug and Birger Stromsheim as companions. In the second attempt on February 28, 1943, all 18 electrolysis cells were destroyed by an explosion. Some of the members of the sabotage squad then went underground and some of them settled in neighboring, neutral Sweden . In 1945 he blew up the Stuguflåt railway bridge with three others in Operation Fieldfare in Sunnmøre .
Private
Rønneberg was born as the second son of Alf Rønneberg and Anna Sandberg Krag. Rønneberg married 24-year-old Liv Foldal on September 19, 1949.
