Joachim Rüdiger von Owstin

Joachim Rüdiger von Owstin , also Jochen Rötger v. O. , (born October 14, 1634 in Jamitzow ; † October 13, 1698 ibid) was a German lawyer , Swedish-Pomeranian government councilor and vice-president of the Wismar Higher Tribunal .

Life

The son of Joachim Kuno von Owstin and Dorothea von Carnitz studied law at the University of Greifswald and defended a disputation on De legibus from Johann Pommeresche in 1653 . He later went to the University of Giessen , where he defended a disputation de remedio appelationis in 1656 under GS Schütz. After completing his studies, he went on an educational trip through France and other countries.

After his return he became a trainee lawyer at the royal court in 1662. In 1663 he became an assessor at the Wismar Higher Tribunal . In 1671 he was appointed to the government of Swedish Pomerania as a councilor. In 1680 he was appointed vice-president of the high tribunal. In 1693 he accepted a call to the Württemberg court, where he became a privy councilor and was given a position as president of the court. The war with France caused him to resign from office in 1696 and return to Swedish Pomerania. There he lived in seclusion on his property until his death in 1698.

Joachim Rüdiger von Owstin was married to Ursula Margaretha von der Osten and had two daughters and three sons with her who died before him.
