Joachim Schaper

Joachim Schaper (* 1965 ) is a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Joachim Schaper studied Protestant theology , philosophy and Assyriology at the University of Tübingen and theology at the University of Cambridge . He received his doctorate in Cambridge in 1993 with a thesis on eschatology in the Greek Psalter and completed his habilitation in Tübingen in 1998 with an investigation into the history of the priesthood in ancient Israel ( priests and Levites in Achaemenid Judah ). He was a research assistant at Clare College at Cambridge University, taught as a private lecturer in the Old Testament at the University of Tübingen from 1999 to 2005 and was awarded the Heisenberg Scholarship by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2002. In 2005 he came to Aberdeen as a reader in the Old Testament , was appointed Personal Chair in 2006 (Chair for Hebrew, Old Testament and Early Jewish Studies) and moved to the Chair of Hebrew and Semitic Languages ​​in 2012. He was President of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament (IOSOT) from 2016 to 2019 and chaired the 23rd IOSOT Congress in August 2019, which took place at the University of Aberdeen .
