Joachim Schubotz lived with his family for decades in a bunker on Olbersstrasse in the Hanover district of Döhren . There he also had space for his artistic work and for storing various materials.

Schubotz was a free spirit and a committed campaigner for peace and justice. Although he was not a member of a Christian parish, his works had various references to parishes and church institutions. For example, he designed the “Memorial plaque for the victims of war and violence” on the St. Petri Church in Döhren . He embellished the wall on the church square there in a painting campaign with children. At the KiTa Querstraße he artistically worked on a tree trunk.
