Joachim Werren (born May 10, 1948 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German politician . Until the end of 2015 he was Secretary General of the Lower Saxony Foundation and from 2003 to 2008 Lower Saxony's State Secretary for Economy, Labor and Transport.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1966 and studying at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) (political sciences), Werren completed his military service from 1967 to 1969. Since then he has been a reserve officer . From 1969 to 1977 he studied law at the University of Bonn . He passed the second state examination in Cologne . From 1977 to 1979 he was a research assistant in the FDP parliamentary group in Düsseldorf , where he was in charge of the parliamentary committees for regional planning and regional planning, urban development, local politics and housing, as well as the committee for forestry, water and agriculture. In 1979 and 1980 he was personal assistant to the Minister for Economics, Medium-Sized Enterprises and Transport, Düsseldorf, then until 1986 personal assistant to the District President and Head of Department 21 (state sovereignty, regulatory affairs, immigration law) at the district government of Cologne . From 1986 to 1990 Werren was deputy spokesman for the Lower Saxony state government, state chancellery, Hanover and from 1990 to 2000 department head and deputy department head (1) in the Lower Saxony state chancellery (policy guidelines, departmental coordination and planning). From April 2000 to March 2003 he headed Department 2 of the Lower Saxony State Chancellery “Law, Administration, Media”. From March 4, 2003 to 2008 he was State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics, Labor and Transport.

In 2008, Werren was elected General Secretary of the Lower Saxony Foundation and left the post of State Secretary. His successor was Stefan Kapferer . In 2015 Joachim Werren retired. His successor as General Secretary of the Lower Saxony Foundation was Lavinia Francke.

Werren is married and has two children.

Werren has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom since 1997 .
