Joachim von Harbou

Joachim von Harbou (born July 30, 1944 in Miedzyzdroje ( Pomerania )) is a German lawyer and former bank director.

Life

Von Harbou studied law at the Universities of Bonn and Würzburg and received his doctorate in 1975 on the subject of “collective bargaining and individual basic rights”. He then joined Dresdner Bank , was appointed to its board in 1996 and left it at the end of 2001. From 2004 to 2007 he was President of the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Commerce . He has three sons.

Dresdner Bank Board of Management

After joining Dresdner Bank in 1975, von Harbou worked there in Munich, Stuttgart, Gießen and finally in the bank's head office in Frankfurt am Main. From mid-1996 to December 31, 2001, he was a member of the Board of Management of Dresdner Bank. Subsequently, von Harbou worked as chairman of the supervisory board of Eurohypo AG .

IHK President

In April 2004, von Harbou was elected 29th President of the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry . December 2006 in a detailed anonymous e-mail to the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs, the legal supervisory authority of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the accusation was made that his election as president was not lawful because he was not active as an entrepreneur at the time of his election in April 2004. This led to lengthy disputes about the person of Harbous, who was accused of authoritarian leadership style by the vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce. The IHK plenary meeting on February 14, 2007, in view of the disputes in the IHK presidium, voted out three other presidium members who were critical of it and who had demanded clarification of the allegations. A short time later, this deselection was declared ineffective by the administrative court. Despite the unresolved allegations, the General Assembly of Harbou reaffirmed himself in his office. On April 3, 2007, von Harbou announced that he would be resigning from his position as IHK President on June 27, 2007. His successor in this function was Hans-Joachim Tonnellier .

Mandates and honorary positions

Joachim von Harbou was involved as a member of the supervisory or advisory board, including Fraport AG , Unicef ​​Germany , Agrarius AG, Nestlé Germany , Mercedes-Benz Bank AG and A-Net Digital Media GmbH. As a member of the supervisory board of the University Clinic Giessen, he was one of the initiators of the merger and subsequent privatization of the two university clinics in Giessen and Marburg . He is also a founding member and board member of 'Gesundheitswirtschaft Rhein Main e. V '.

From 1995 to 2005 von Harbou represented the Czech Republic as its honorary consul in Hesse .
