Joachim Christian von Sievers (born April 6, 1719 in Moscow , † December 29, 1778 in Reval ) was a German-Baltic general in Russian service and vice-governor of Estonia .

Life

Joachim v. Sievers was the son of the Swedish major and Finnish landlord to Justilanjöki Christian Sievers (* 1671) and Anna v. Brümmer. His father was captured by Russian troops during the siege of Narva in 1704 and remained in Moscow until the end of the war in 1721 (Great Northern War), first as a prisoner and later as a translator.

Sievers entered the Holstein military service according to family tradition. In 1740 he became a lieutenant in the infantry in the Russian army. When the Seven Years' War broke out in 1756 he was already a colonel. Sievers was seriously injured and captured in the battle of the Battle of Zorndorf . Promoted to major general in 1759 and lieutenant general in 1763, he was appointed commander of Reval after the war.

As early as 1752 he bought the Böcklershof estate in Livonia, but sold it again to his relative, Count Karl von Sievers (1710–1774), when he was appointed commander of Reval in 1764.

In 1770 he was also appointed lieutenant governor of Estonia under Peter August Friedrich von Holstein-Beck . In 1773 he was appointed to the Really Secret Council (second highest civil rank in the Russian Empire). After the death of Peter August Sievers took over the de facto management of the governorate in 1775, since the successor Georg Brown resided in Riga.

Joachim von Sievers married Natalie von Tiesenhausen in 1763 .
