Joan Baptista Rocabert
Joan Baptista Rocabert , also occurring in the spelling Joan Baptista Rocaverd , OSB , (* 1657 in Barcelona , † 1701 in Madrid ) was a Catalan organist , composer and choirmaster of the Escolania de Montserrat . He also appeared as a theologian , historian and Latinist .
Live and act
Joan Baptista Rocabert attended the Escola de Montserrat from 1667 to 1674 and was probably trained there by Joan Cererols . In his senior year at school he joined the Benedictine order. Rocabert was twice director of the chapel and the Escolania de Montserrat . In the last decade of the century he was called to the monastery of San Martín de Madrid and worked there as an organist.
Rocabert mastered various instruments. Among other things, he worked as an outstanding violinist and harpist.
His numerous sacred works have been performed in many churches in Spain. In the Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid there are some manuscripts by Rocabert.
