Joanna Majdan (Judoka)

Joanna Majdan (born July 27, 1964 ) is a former Polish judoka . She was third in the world championship in 1984 in the lightweight division.

Athletic career

Joanna Majdan fought in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms , until October 1984 . From November 1984 to 1992 she competed in the half-light weight category, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 1993 and 1994 she was active again in the ultralight. She was Polish champion from 1982 to 1984 and 1994 in ultralightweight, from 1985 to 1989 she won the title in lightweight.

At the second World Championships for women in Paris in 1982 , Majdan reached the semifinals and was defeated by the British Karen Briggs , the battle for bronze she lost to the Japanese Hitomi Nakahara . Two years later and one weight class higher, she lost to the Japanese Kaori Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals of the 1984 World Championships in Vienna . A year later, she defeated Kantojärvi in ​​the quarterfinals of the 1986 European Championships . After the semi-final defeat against the French Dominique Maaoui-Brun , she defeated Franziska Wyss from Switzerland in the battle for a bronze medal . At the 1986 World Championships in Maastricht, she finished fifth. At the end of 1986 she won the world championships for students. In 1987 Majdan finished fifth at the European Championships . In 1988 she won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Pamplona. She also won bronze at the student world championships at the end of the year.

In 1989 she won her third bronze medal at the Continental Championships at the European Championships in Helsinki. After a semi-final defeat against the Finn Jaana Ronkainen , she defeated the German Carmen Schuler in the battle for bronze . In 1990 Majdan was fifth at the European Championships and won bronze again at the World Student Championships.
