Joanna Penberthy

Joanna Penberthy (* 1960 ) is an Anglican theologian and Bishop of the Church in Wales .

Life

Penberthy studied Anglican theology at Newnham College , Cambridge and St John's College , Nottingham, and Cranmer Hall , Durham . In 1987 Penberthy was ordained a deacon and in 1997 an Anglican priestess . On November 6, 2016, she was elected to succeed Wyn Evans as the first woman in the episcopate of the Diocese of St David's in Wales and consecrated as bishop on January 21, 2017 by Archbishop Barry Morgan . Penberthy is married to the Anglican priest Adrian Legg and has four children.
