Joannes Henricus Maria Koenen

Joannes Henricus Maria Koenen (pronounced Ku: nen) (born March 10, 1893 in Eindhoven , Netherlands , † May 29, 1956 in 's-Hertogenbosch ) was a Dutch neurologist .

From 1910 to May 1918 Koenen studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam . After graduating, he worked as a doctor at the Coudewater Psychiatric Hospital in Rosmalen . In 1929 he moved to the Voorburg Psychiatric Hospital . On June 22, 1933, he was at the University of Leiden on his dissertation topic "Zwakzinnigheid bij Kinderen Paar beteeknis in paedagogisch en social opzicht op grond van een onderzoek in eenige gemeenten in Noord-Brabant" ( German : "Insanity in children educational and social terms, on the basis of an investigation in some municipalities in Noord-Brabant ") doctorate . Years later Koenen became the "Inspector of the State Insane Administration".

During his time in Rosmalen, Koenen wrote an article on tuberous sclerosis (also called Bourneville-Pringle syndrome ). He was the first to photograph periungual fibroids (periungual = 'in the vicinity of a fingernail or toenail'), benign tumors that are now referred to as " Koenen tumors " after Koenen . However, the first description of the periungual fibroids was made in 1903 by the Munich doctor Richard Kothe .

Koenen married Huberta Francisca Johanna Hoogveld (1895–1988) on January 27, 1920.
