Joaquín Victor González

Joaquín Victor González (born March 6, 1863 in Nonogasta , Chilecito Department , La Rioja Province , †  December 21, 1923 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine politician and writer .

Life

González came from a wealthy and long-established family. He finished his law studies at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in 1886 with a doctorate . He then got a job in administration and also made a political career.

He was elected to the national parliament of his country and later also appointed to the Senate. Between 1889 he was elected governor of the province of La Rioja for two years . González then successively headed the domestic affairs, justice and culture departments. In 1905 he was instrumental in founding the University of La Plata and was also its first president. He bequeathed his extensive private library to this university.

Joaquín Victor González died at the age of almost 60 on December 21, 1923 in Buenos Aires, where he found his final resting place.

Honors

The city of Joaquín Victor González ( Anta Department , Salta Province ) bears his name in his honor.
