Company history

Johannes Bockemühl founded the company in 1923 because he wanted to develop photos and didn't have a dark room. His idea was to get started with the Jobo tanks with which photographers and laboratories developed their black and white films .

Production began in the basement of the house, then two more buildings were built on the company premises in Gummersbach - Derschlag .

In 1960 Johannes Jürgen Bockemühl joined the company.

In 2002 the company was converted into a stock corporation, until today (as of May 2006) all shares are family owned.

Today, Johannes Bockemühl junior is the third generation to run the family business. In 2003, at the age of 30, he took over the management of his parents' company.

After an economic crisis in the 90s, Jobo AG began converting its product range in 2003 in order to take account of the changed market conditions in the age of digital photography .
