Jocy de Oliveira

Jocy de Oliveira (born April 11, 1936 in Curitiba ) is a Brazilian pianist and composer.

De Oliveira studied in São Paulo with José Klías , in Paris with Marguerite Long and at the University of St. Louis , Missouri . She works as an interpreter mainly of 20th century music in America and Europe. Composers such as Iannis Xenakis , Luciano Berio and Cláudio Santoro wrote works for her, she recorded the main works of Olivier Messiaen and performed in concerts with John Cage and Lukas Foss . In addition to Messiaen's works, she primarily recorded her own compositions on more than twenty CDs.

De Oliveira is considered to be the most important contemporary composer in Brazil. In the foreground of her work are electronic multimedia works, including several operas and stage works as well as video projects. In addition, she also emerged as a book author. She was with the composer Eleazar de Carvalho married.
