Joe Killian

Joseph "Joe" Killian (born April 10, 1927 in Bridgeport , Connecticut , † May 1, 2013 in New Braunfels , Texas ) was an American jazz pianist and organist.

Killian came from a family of musicians and did military service in the US Navy during World War II. In the post-war period he worked a. a. with Jimmy Ford , Dexter Gordon , Sonny Stitt , Charlie Shavers , Tino Contreras , Curtis Fuller , Stuff Smith , Clifford Scott , Kansas Fields , Don Wilkerson and Wilbur Ware . He worked u. a. also in recording sessions of his son, the jazz saxophonist Stan Killian , with ( Deep Down , 2002), with whom he performed in the San Antonio area. Killian died in early May 2013 at the age of 86.
