Joe Satriani is a self-titled EP by American rock musician Joe Satriani . The EP was released in 1984 on the Rubina Records label and was originally strictly limited to 500 copies.
Most of the EP material was later released on the Time Machine album with the exception of Talk to Me , the tapes of which were damaged.
The album is characterized by Satriani's guitar playing and his sound effects : On the album only the guitar is used, which was used as drums by means of tapping technology and as bass by means of deep detuning .
Satriani recorded the album while working as a guitar teacher in Berkeley , California . Due to the success of the EP, Relativity Records signed a contract with Satriani and two years later Satriani's first studio album, Not of This Earth, was released on Relativity.
