Joe Scanlan

Joe Scanlan (* 1961 in Stoutsville ) is an American concept and installation artist .

Joe Scanlan studied sculpture and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio in 1984 . He continued his studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago . Scanlan began teaching as a professor at Yale University School of Art in 2001 . In 2009 Scanlan was appointed professor at Princeton, where he heads the Faculty of Visual Arts . Scanlan publishes articles on art and design in the magazines Artforum , Art issues, Frieze and Parkett .

Massachusetts Wedding Bed , Thingstahtfall Pavilion and Donelle Woolford are well-known projects. The Donelle Woolford Project, in which a professional actress takes on the role of a fictional artist, raises questions about the meaning of race and gender in art.

Joe Scanlan's works can be seen regularly at major international exhibitions, including documenta IX in 1992 in Kassel.
