Joe Whitney (basketball player)

Joseph John "Joe" Whitney (born before 1981) is an American musician and former basketball player who was active in the national basketball league for TV Langen . He scored a total of 1916 points in the top German league.

career

Whitney grew up in Seattle ( Washington state ) as the child of a family of musicians and performed with his three siblings at a young age. He played basketball at Gonzaga University from 1981 to 1983 and then at the University of Puget Sound . After completing his college days, Whitney dared the leap into the professional camp, in 1986 the 1.98 meter long wing and inside player came to the German Bundesliga club TV Langen through the mediation of the then German national player Hans-Jürgen Gnad . He was supposed to play for the Hessian club until 1992 (1986 to 1988, 1989/90 and 1991/92 in the first division, 1988/89, 1990/91 in the second). Following the 1991/92 season, he ended his basketball career and at the beginning of the 1992/93 game year took over the coaching position for the men's team at TV Langen, which he held until the end of 1993.

Whitney settled in Germany and got into the music business full-time. Together with the Ulm- born singer Annabell Kay (formerly a member of the Masterboy group ), whom he had looked after as a singing teacher, he founded the band "The StreetLIVE Family" and an artist agency. In 2008 Joe Whitney and Annabell Kay married. The couple belonged as the group "Giants Club" to the cast of the television program " Hit-Giganten ", appear as a singing duo at music events, at folk festivals, company celebrations and trade fairs. Whitney is also active as a music producer, songwriter and composer.

Whitney played baseball with the Bad Homburg Hornets parallel to his musician career , was also stadium announcer and until 2015 chairman of the Bundesliga club. Later he played for the baseball players of the Darmstadt Whippets and in the 2018/19 season for the 2nd men's basketball team of the Babenhausen Wizards.
