Joel Agee
Joel Agee (* 1940 in New York City ) is an American writer and translator. He lives in New York.
Life
Joel Agee is the son of James Agee . His parents divorced in 1941, and his mother Alma Agee went to Mexico with her child and married Bodo Uhse there . In 1946 Agees half-brother Stefan Uhse was born in Mexico, who committed suicide in 1973 in New York City . In 1948 the family moved to Berlin, where Uhse chief editor of the cultural magazine assembly , deputy of the GDR - People's Parliament and later became chairman of the Writers Union. The marriage failed in 1960 and Alma Agee moved back to the United States with her sons.
Joel Agee wrote the book Twelve Years - An American Youth in East Germany (1982) and In the House of My Fear (2004). He translated works by Kleist , Dürrenmatt , Canetti , Nossack and Federspiel into English.
