Joel Greenblatt

Joel Greenblatt (born December 13, 1957 in Great Neck , Long Island , NY ) is an American fund manager and adjunct professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

Life

Greenblatt studied at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration . In 1985 he started the Gotham Capital hedge fund with $ 7 million. He launched a website where investors could have their investment ideas evaluated. The website gives away $ 5,000 in prize money every week for the best idea. In his book Die Börsen-Zauberformel he describes his investment strategy. In doing so, he filters out the best stocks using the two key figures return on investment (RoIC, Return on Invested Capital) and profit return (reciprocal of the P / E ratio or 1 / P / E ratio).,

From 1994 to 1995 Greenblatt was chairman of the supervisory board of the defense company Alliant Techsystems , whose supervisory board he remained on until 2000. Later he was also active in philanthropy, for example in the promotion of students in disadvantaged residential areas of New York.
