Joel Guzman

Joel Guzman is an American tejano musician from Kyle , Texas . As an accordionist , he is known beyond the Tejano genre.

Guzman, who earned the nickname "El Pequeno Gigante" ("the little giant") in his childhood when he performed together with his father, appeared in the 1990s as a guest musician on the publications of various artists. He can now be heard on well over 50 albums, including records by Joe Ely , Michelle Shocked , Tom Russell , Flaco Jiménez , Los Super Seven and the Flatlanders . Guzman also accompanied several of these artists on stage.

With his own projects, Guzman mixes traditional Mexican music with blues , rock , country , salsa , cumbia and other genres. Together with his wife, the singer Sarah Fox , Guzman founded the band Los Aztex, which released the album Short Stories produced by Steve Berlin in 1999 . Guzman and Fox also form the Mexican Roots Trio with Bajo Sexto player Max Baca, which performs with traditional Mexican folklore. The latest project by Guzman and Fox, Latinology (2006), on the other hand, is based on Latin rock .

In 2004 Guzman recorded the album Polkas Gritos Y Accordeons with Tejano accordionists David Lee Garza and Sunny Sauceda , which won a Grammy for Best Tejano Album in 2005.

Guzman also works as a music producer and runs his own record label Guzman Fox Records with his wife .
