Joerg Pfuhl

Joerg M. Pfuhl (born 1964 in Bremen ) is a German manager.

Life

Joerg Pfuhl graduated with a degree in business administration. He worked at the Institute for Auditing at Saarland University and received his doctorate in 1993.

From 1994 to 2011, Pfuhl worked in the Corporate Development Department at Bertelsmann AG , took on management positions and was most recently chairman of the management board of the Random House publishing group with responsibility for the German-language book publishing business. He was also a member of the supervisory boards of Edel AG and Franz Cornelsen Bildungsholding .

Pfuhl has been CEO of the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group since September 2016, which includes the publishing houses Argon , Droemer Knaur , Kiepenheuer & Witsch , Rowohlt and S. Fischer .

Pfuhl has been a board member of the Reading Foundation since 2004 and has been chairman of the board since 2011.

In connection with the dismissal of Barbara Laugwitz as managing director of the Rowohlt Verlag, which was criticized by numerous authors of the publishing house, Pfuhl came under considerable pressure in September 2018, which culminated on September 27, 2018 in the issuance of an injunction against him obtained by Laugwitz, against that of Pfuhl, in turn, an objection was lodged.

At the beginning of May 2020 it was announced that Pfuhl would give up his chief position at Holtzbrinck in July of that year at his own request in order to devote himself to other tasks. His successor is Alexander Laurel.
