Baron Johan August Gripenstedt (born August 11, 1813 in Holstein , † July 13, 1874 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish politician, entrepreneur and Swedish Minister of Finance from 1856 to 1866 .

Life

Gripenstedt studied in Uppsala before he was drafted into the military. In 1831 he was appointed lieutenant of the Göta artilleriregemente . In 1846, at his own request, he resigned as an artillery staff officer from military service. His political career began as early as 1840 as a member of the State Council . As a member of the Liberal Party (today Folkpartiet liberalerna ), he was appointed to various committees, including the important constitutional committee ( konstitutionutskottet ). From 1848 to 1851 he was Minister without Portfolio ( konsultativt statsråd ), from May 28, 1856 to July 4, 1866 then Minister of Finance. In 1862 he was awarded the Royal Order of Seraphine .
