Johan Goslings (born March 9, 1903 in Malang , † October 16, 1975 in Leiden ) was a Dutch medic.

Life

Johan was the son of the officer Bernardus Marius Goslings (born September 12, 1865 in Dokkum; † January 27, 1945 in Leiden) and his wife Elisabeth Rosalie Frederika Wessels (born October 23, 1878 in Jakarta (Batavia); † September 17, 1938 in Amsterdam). He had attended high school in The Hague and started studying medicine at Leiden University . In 1927 he passed his medical exam and in the same year became an assistant at the Institute for Tropical Hygiene in Amsterdam . In October 1928 he received his doctorate in Amsterdam under Emilius Paulus Snijders (* October 24, 1885 in Amsterdam; † March 25, 1958 in Apeldoorn) on the subject of Verdere bijdrage tot het Salmonella-vraagstuk (German: Further contribution to the salmonella problem ) as a doctor of medicine . From 1928 to 1934 he served as a health officer in Indonesia in various places, continued his training as an internist with Willem Abraham Kuenen (born February 23, 1873 in Leiden; † May 1, 1951 ibid.) In Leiden in 1935 and worked at the military hospital in 1938 Magelang .

In 1939 he returned to the Netherlands, where he became Kuenen's main assistant and specialized in rheumatology. He became the head of the independent foundation Leidse Rheumatologische Kliniek and director of the rheumatism center Sole Mio in Noordwijk .

Goslings was involved in the Partij van de Arbeid (PvdA), for which he worked from 1945 to 1959 as a member of the Leiden City Council and from 1946 to 1951 as an advisor to the Main Inspectorate for Public Health.

On February 9, 1953, Goslings was appointed special professor of rheumatology at the University of Leiden and took up this position on June 24 of the same year. On October 22, 1954, he gave his introductory speech Beschouwingen over plaats en taak van de rheumatologie (German: considerations on the position and task of rheumatology ). On July 20, 1960 he became associate professor and on May 26, 1964 full professor of the subject. In the 1969/70 academy year, Goslings was appointed rector of the alma mater and on April 28, 1972, he retired from his professorship.

family

Goslings married on October 22, 1928 in Amsterdam with Cornelia Albertine Repko (born June 14, 1909 in Amsterdam; † May 26, 1990 in Leiden), the daughter of the architect Johan Frederik Repko (born June 1, 1883 in Amsterdam; † 25 December 1955 in Bloemendaal) and his wife Trijntje Martin (born January 15, 1885 in Leeuwarden, † April 22, 1976 in Amstelveen). There are children from the marriage.
